Abstract |
Egypt’s sustainable development strategy represents a roadmap for maximizing competitive advantage, sectoral growth and efficient use of resources that guarantees the rights of future generations through following the sustainability principle. This research is concerned with digitalization as a tool for sustainable transformation of society. Such that, it examines digitalization through using a systemic risk- benefit perspective that helps in identifying and categorizing major opportunities and challenges regarding the economic, social, and environmental dimensions of sustainability. Since, the dynamics and impacts of digitalization are numerous, all involved parties should be engaged in a co-design process to develop a governance structure that is in line with sustainability. A structure that aims at 1) fostering an open and competitive circular economy that ensures long-term socially protected employment, 2) improving digital literacy at all levels and establishing unwavering and strict rules for data security, and 3) employing environmentally friendly materials and processes along with clean sustainable renewable energy sources. |
